Calotest

Measuring the thickness of thin films

The Calotest is a simple and effective technique to measure the thickness of thin films or coatings deposited on a substrate. It is particularly useful for coatings in the range of micrometers or hundreds of nanometers. During the test, a rotating ball coated with an abrasive slurry is used to wear through the coating, and from the dimensions of the calotte, thickness is calculated.
