The aim of this project is to study potential improvement of thermal barrier coting systems using a few micrometers thick diboride coatings which would homogeneously cover the entire component and act as an active barrier preventing the penetration of oxygen by forming dense, non-porous oxide scales with very slow oxidation kinetics.
